On 15 February 1971, the United Kingdom changed its coinage over to the decimal system. This was Decimalisation Day.

Before decimalisation. I think our coinage was so much better then; but the system was clearly designed so that "Johnny Foreigner" wouldn't be able to work out how much anything was.
It's strange for us now to think that coins were in circulation...
