Bingo! It was an edge strike with a small foldover flap. One edge
shows Lincoln’s face and the other the smeared base of the Memorial.
It appears a single strike produced this error. The coin must’ve
slipped and landed squarely between the dies for the finish of the
downstroke. The middle of the coin shows stress fissures from a bend
that was flattened out by the completion of the downstroke.
